Biography of Tamby Chan

Hi! My name is Tamby and I’ve been teaching young children for over thirteen years.

My passion for education started during the practicum of the Early Childhood Education diploma program I studied in Canada. Though I had already decided on teaching as a career, it wasn't until I got to interact with children every day and see the positive effect I had on them that I fully appreciated how important this job is. Not only do we help children learn new things and form friendships with each other, but we also get to make a difference in the way they think about school, and themselves. Since then, I’ve worked at a Montessori preschool in Canada for two years, an international preschool in Hong Kong for ten years, a learning centre for five years, tutored privately for ten years, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Early Childhood Studies from Middlesex University.

My educational philosophy is for children to learn through play in an enriching environment where they feel safe and confident, and for teachers to provide a range of opportunities, and appropriate guidance as needed. In my experiences as substitute teacher at Fairchild in the first half of 2019, I found that its ethos aligns closely with my own. I also couldn’t help but notice the passion and enthusiasm all the educators have, and I’m thrilled to join the team.

In my free time, I love to explore Hong Kong with my two children - my 4 year-old daughter, Scarlett, and 1 year-old son, Miles. From beaches and mountains to parks and museums, Hong Kong provides a dynamic environment for children to learn, just as we try to do with our students in our classrooms.

I look forward to sharing in your child's learning journey.
